Founded in September 2010 by Lucas Spivey, 17 Cox presented underrepresented ideas through visual experiments in its gallery, library and residence. The mission was to improve artist careers, staff careers and encourage the local arts community. The 17 Cox building was a former taxi dispatch headquarters in the Goat Hill district of Beverly MA.
The downstairs gallery exhibited over 200 artists, and the upstairs apartment hosted dozens of residents and compiled over 1300 titles in its library.
